Environmental Impact Assessments of Highway Schemes

This course is aimed at those either new to the development control and planning process or those who need an update on Environmental Impact Assessment(s), (EIAs) which is a fundamental part of the planning process for major schemes.

The course will provide a general understanding of this procedure in the context of the planning process - from feasibility though planning to operation.

Aims and Objectives:

To enable the delegate to:

• Understand the requirements of EIAs
• Determine the various chapters? and requirements
• Establish how to use data
• State the pros and cons of the EIA
• Appreciate when the process should or should not be used
• Understand the relevant parts of the planning process and how this fits into the engineer's role
• Develop ideas on how to overcome a Highway Engineering issue
• Establish how to judge and examine data presented during the exercises
