Working with People with Multiple Learning Disabilities

Aims & Objectives:

Course Aims:

This one day course aims to examine some of the key issues which present when working with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will have gained and insight and awareness into the challenges of supporting this service user group and will have engaged with current debates and research into the most effective forms of service provision.

Course Outline:

  • Reaching a definition of multiple disability;
  • Discussing the demographic evidence and the current and projected challenges for service;
  • Exploring the principles of good practice when supporting this service user group;
  • Analysing factors which contribute to the safety and dignity of vulnerable people;

The course will be delivered using a variety of methods including:

  • Presentations
  • Small group work
  • Large group discussion

Participants will be invited to complete evaluation forms and will be encouraged to discuss their learning and future development needs with their supervisor/manager.
