Staff Supervision & Appraisal - An Introduction

Overview:

The object of this course is to explain the process of supervision and appraisal in relation to the requirements of good HR practice and the relationships to the Care Standards Act 2000. It will provide Managers and Supervisors with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out effective supervisions and appraisals in their organisational situations

Course Objectives/Aims:

At the end of the programme attendees will have:

  • A clear understanding of the Care Standards Act 2000 and other legislation
  • Understand the need for a range of management and supervisory styles
  • Have the ability to develop a 'best practice' model for staff supervision in their own care setting
  • Establish a range of methods to find the necessary information needed to carry out the staff appraisal process in a fair but rigours manner
  • In a workshop situation develop and tryout a model appraisal
  • Establish how information relating to the process of staff supervision and regular assessments and appraisals can best be recorded and used to improve performance

Learning Outcomes:

Attendees will be better prepared to avoid the risks disengagement when supervising and appraising staff in care (or other) settings and instead, be better able to use these areas of HR management as a means to inspire.

Course Outline:

The Course will focus Managers, Supervisors and others on the following key areas;

  • Ensuring that the organisation's Staff Handbook is available to all employees and it's importance in the day to day operation of the business is understood by all
  • That Managers and Supervisors understand the importance of regular assessment and monitoring staff against agreed standards of competence using a range of methods
  • Implement realistic learning and development plans for all staff as part their Continuing Professional Development
