Road Safety Audit (RSA) is the independent safety check of highway and traffic schemes and in the UK RSA is mandatory for trunk road and motorways schemes and commended for all other roads.
Unlike highway engineering, traffic engineering and transport planning where there are standards and guidelines for carrying out the design and works, the RSA standard requires evidence of the training and competence of the person themselves.
Your training must be kept up-to-date and you should be able to provide evidence of this. Without demonstrable relevant training, experience and knowledge you are not permitted to undertake Road Safety Audits.

Overview:
Road Safety Audit (RSA) is the independent safety check of highway and traffic schemes. 1782 people were killed on UK roads in 2018. Globally, someone is killed in a road traffic collision every 25 seconds. Research shows that RSA can reduce the number and severity of injury collisions occurring on road schemes, when compared to other schemes that were not independently audited.
In the UK, RSA is mandatory for trunk road and motorways schemes and commended for all other roads. The legal profession, insurance companies, media, public all come looking around in the aftermath of a serious collision. They can become very interested in whether organisations have a RSA policy and procedure and whether organisations and individuals correctly follow the procedure. In your career in roads, you can expect to have a least one legal claim made against you or something you did. Are you ready for this?
